Terms & conditions

Last updated: 13 August 2026

Lite and Pro trials, billing, your content ownership, and how we run Studio — written so both of us know where we stand.

1. Agreement

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern access to and use of Blocwrite (the “Service”), including our website, Studio, and related features. By creating an account, verifying your email, starting a trial, paying for a subscription, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you use Blocwrite on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation.

2. Who we are

Blocwrite is a writing studio product operated from the United Kingdom. Support and legal notices: customerservice@blocwrite.com. Our Privacy Policy and Refund Policy form part of your agreement with us.

3. Service scope

Blocwrite provides tools for long-form fiction and related work: chapter drafting and reordering, planning and world notes, checkpoints, Word import, manuscript export, and (depending on plan) beta reader share links, Format Studio, optional AI Assist and Companion (bring-your-own-key), Writer Coach, languages and translation tools, Continuity, Series Bible, Script Editor, and share snippet images. We may add, change, or remove features; plan pages describe current entitlements. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.

4. Plans, trials, and billing

After you create an account you may subscribe to Lite (£7.99/month) or Pro (£10.99/month), or other plans we publish. Prices are shown in GBP unless stated otherwise. Billing is handled by Stripe. By starting Checkout you authorise Stripe to collect a payment method and charge according to the plan and trial you select.

No free forever plan. There is no ongoing free tier. Studio unlocks only when you start a Lite or Pro subscription (including the trial described below), or when we grant guest/admin access.

Trial. Lite and Pro Checkout each include a 7-day trial that requires a payment method up front. Unless you cancel before the trial ends through Stripe’s billing portal or the cancellation path we provide, the subscription renews and you will be charged. Any legacy cardless trial still active on an older account ends when its stated window ends; new signups do not receive cardless trials.

Auto-renewal. Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current price until cancelled. Cancel before the renewal date to avoid the next charge; access usually continues until the end of the paid (or trial) period already purchased. Full refund and cancellation rules are in the Refund Policy.

Without an active trial or paid subscription (and without guest/admin access), Studio remains locked. We may change prices or plan contents with reasonable notice for renewals. Taxes may apply where required.

5. Account, verification, and acceptable access

You must provide accurate registration details, keep credentials secure, and be responsible for activity under your account. You must verify your email when we require it before trial Checkout unlocks. You must not: share login credentials; create accounts to evade bans or billing; scrape, overload, or reverse-engineer the Service; bypass plan gates; or use the Service for unlawful content or to infringe others’ rights. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

6. Ownership and licence to operate the Service

You retain ownership of your writing, drafts, covers you upload, and project content. Blocwrite does not claim ownership of work you create on the platform. Files you export remain your content. You grant us a limited licence to host, back up, process, transmit, and display your content solely to operate the Service (including sync, share-link delivery you enable, export generation, and support you request). Platform code, design, trademarks, and branding remain our property. Feedback you send may be used to improve the product without obligation to you.

7. Share links and readers

Where your plan includes Share, you are responsible for who receives links and any passwords you set. Readers may view selected chapters and leave highlights or comments. Share is not a publishing or rights-management system. You must not share content you are not entitled to distribute. We may revoke abusive or unsafe share links.

8. Format Studio and publishing files

Format Studio helps you design interiors and generate export files. You are solely responsible for checking that exports meet the requirements of any storefront, printer, or aggregator. Blocwrite does not guarantee acceptance by Amazon KDP, Apple Books, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Draft2Digital, IngramSpark, or any other third party. Print or cover generation may depend on server tooling and hosting configuration.

9. Optional AI features

Assist, Companion, Continuity AI helpers, and related tools are optional Pro features where offered. When you connect your own API key, prompts and relevant context are sent to the provider you choose. Blocwrite does not train its own models on your manuscript and does not sell your writing as training data. Third-party provider terms apply to API traffic. AI output may be inaccurate or infringing — you must review before accepting into your draft.

10. Data, retention, and backups

We process personal data as described in our Privacy Policy. Workspace sync stores projects so you can work across devices. You are responsible for keeping your own backups. After paid or trial access ends without a continuing entitlement, we may retain manuscripts for a limited retention window (typically about 30 days) and then permanently delete server copies, or sooner if you delete your account.

11. Third-party services

The Service relies on third parties such as Stripe (payments), email delivery providers, hosting infrastructure, and (if you enable Assist) AI API providers you choose. Their outages or policy changes are outside our full control.

12. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. We disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under UK law (including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Blocwrite and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or business opportunity. Our aggregate liability for claims relating to the Service in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for the Service in that period, or (b) £50. These limits apply whether a claim is in contract, tort (including negligence), or otherwise, except where prohibited.

14. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Blocwrite and its operators from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your misuse of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of third-party rights — except to the extent caused by our wilful misconduct.

15. Suspension, termination, and account deletion

You may stop using the Service and may delete your account where that control is offered. We may suspend or terminate access immediately for breach, abuse, non-payment, legal risk, or to protect the Service or other users. On termination, licences we granted you end; sections that by nature should survive continue to apply.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change. Material changes may be communicated by email or an in-product notice where practical. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and cancel any paid subscription.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK you may also bring proceedings in your local courts where mandatory consumer rules allow. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory consumer rights.

18. Contact

Questions about these Terms: customerservice@blocwrite.com or our contact page.
